JOB & LIFE SKILLS TRAINING
TEACH ME TO FISH
"Give me a fish and I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish and I will eat for the rest of my life."

The TEACH ME TO FISH program is a comprehensive education initiative designed specifically for the Grace Center neighbors as well as  St. Louis City citizens.

Free classes and training will be provided in a well structured environment that will teach not only job skills, but such life skills as are necessary for success, including (but not limited to) confidence building, discipline, and emotion management.

No student will not be rejected upon past criminal background, current job status, or education.  Once a student is accepted, they will be assigned to a counselor who will help guide them through the rest of the program.  An initial interview between the student and his/her counselor will be set which is based on student's needs.

Landing a job that can support a family can seem hopeless, if not entirely impossible, to a person living with in the Grace Center or St. Louis City neighborhoods.

The neighborhood, wherein the Grace Center is situated, is considered to be one of the most depressed and hopeless regions of St. Louis.  With an unemployment rate over 31% (6 times the national average) and an average adult yearly income of $10,695, people here fall well beneath the poverty standards of our nation.

One third of the population is under the age of 18.  Over 93% belong to single parent household and over 27% of them are not enrolled in school.  That's over 1,600 children from kindergarten through High School who go daily without supervision, challenge or development.  This high rate only ensures that the deeply rooted problems within the St. Louis Cities will continue to grow worse.

Also in the Grace Center area, only 3 out of 4 people have a High School degree and around 1/3 of all housing is abandoned.

DO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW RESIDE IN ST. LOUIS CITY AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE CRIME RATES DECLINE AND OUR YOUTH TO BECOME MORE SUCCESSFUL???
